Spring

 Our tarpon fishing in the lagoons was slow for big fish between Feb threw April were normally we are impact by very strong cold front coming threw, triggering our big girls to eat like there is no tomorrow. We had very few days with perfect condition (less than 10) for a steady tarpon bite were we had over 15 on tarpon over 60-70 pounds on 1/2 day. On average years we can have good 20 to 30 days of more than 15 bites for big fish. This season I personally guide 3 tarpon over 100 pounds, the first one was 110 on Feb, the next two were on March one 130 pound and the last one 115 pounds, no monsters this year, did not hook any earthier (over 140). Capt. David Payakovish guide over dozen tarpon over 60 pound and one over 100. All this fish were tag and mesure….no fishing story or the one that we lost on 8 pound test…..again.?!?!?!?!?!!. Mean while the small tarpon around 15-30 pound has been very consistent on peak tides with nice frenzies and on slow tides working drop off. This game plan is producing 5 to 10 bites on average with some 1/2 days with over 15 bites, like today with 13 bites land 5 and 2 of them were tag and 6 snooks in the 4-12 pound class nice fish.

 Off shore the water temperature is cold for this time of the year and the billfish has been slow except around new and full moon were we can get up to 5 bites of marlin, but the tuna are keeping us busy. The next moth we start to have a lot warmer waters and the blue marlin start to get strong on the bite with a average of 300 pounds.

 My condolence for Mr. Gordon Loetz family for their lost on hands and decision of the still number one very irresponsible Capt. after he capsizes hes boat on 15 foot waves.  I am very sorry and not all the Capt. here are like that, we have a very good line of Capt all over the Island.
